Why does curiosity matter to business leaders now?
Inflation now climbing above 10% in UK. Volatility in financial markets. Economic uncertainty. War in Ukraine. Disruptive innovation. Talent scarcity.
It can be daunting leading in today’s world, there’s so much to grapple with.
These and many other new challenges that no-one has faced before, means every day more stuff is being thrown at us.
On top of that, your teams, customers and stakeholders, have increasing expectations around Wellbeing, Diversity, Inclusion, Social and Environmental concerns.
They now expect responsible leadership from you whilst delivering excellent business results.
With acute shortages of talent at all levels, it’s more important an ever to create a culture where people want to work because they feel they are valued and believe they can thrive.
Your colleagues are looking to you for direction but there are often no obvious pathways to success.
This is where curiosity really counts.
Being curious helps you, as a leader, discover the best way forward in an uncertain world.
But what does being curious mean?
Curiosity is about:
Being prepared to challenge how things are done, including how you lead yourself.
Asking more questions, encouraging employees to ask questions and share ideas.
Experimenting and committing to turning learning into action to do things better.
What can leaders do more of to create the conditions for colleagues to respond differently in challenging times ?
