Realising business potential

"Working with John Drysdale was key in helping me realise the potential of my business. It was really valuable to be able to draw on his experience of coaching CEOs across a range of businesses. What stood out for me were the practical tools, techniques and guidance that I could immediately use in managing and organising my senior team."

Founder & CEO, Digital Marketing

The Challenge

My client was the CEO and Founder of a Digital Marketing business.

He had ambitious plans to increase the business value by accelerating profitable growth and expanding internationally through acquisition.

They had been in business for several years and market conditions were creating opportunities for a major uplift in commercial performance.

There were a number of people in senior roles, who had been with him for a while who had performed well over the years. They all now needed to raise their game to realise the commercial potential for the business.

Our focus

A programme of Leadership Coaching. We initially focused on reviewing key roles against new ambitious business objectives. This led to reassigning responsibilities in the top team and recruitment of a new senior team member.

The priority was then getting the commitment the senior team committed to work in new ways to make the organisation more effective. This was only successful when my client changed the way he led his team, holding them to account for higher standards.

It mean coaching him to be curious about what was getting in the way for him making the changes and being prepared to try out new ways of working and leading.

I was able to help him make these changes on a personal level by making use of a range of practical management tools and techniques.

Following acceptance of an acquisition bid, our work focused on successfully leading the company through the transition to sale and integration.

Outcomes

During our programme, my client’s business was the subject of an acquisition bid. This intensified the focus and effort on transforming business performance. As a result, the business reported profitable growth in excess of market growth. The valuation of the business was greatly enhanced and my client accepted a bid reflecting this. A year after the acquisition, my client’s business has now been integrated into a larger , more broadly based , marketing group. He has now handed over management responsibility for the business he founded and has a key strategic role on the leadership team of the wider group.
